How to Help Set Up a Fundraiser

I probably get about 467 calls per month asking if I’ll help with another fundraiser.  I’ll be very honest with this line since I exaggerated the numbers in the previous line, but it gets very frustrating to tell some no, some yes, and lead the rest to my friends, since I can’t do them all. I am grateful people would think I could help draw a crowd for a night out with family and friends, in support of a worthy cause, and yet I really can’t do too many of these. Why am I writing about this?  Because this

When “Genius” is the Only Way To Describe Someone

Driving to Ryan Hamilton’s sold out show last Friday, I reflected on our history, having worked together at the beginning of our career at Johnny B’s Comedy Club in Provo, UT, where he, of all people, opened for me….and now seeing him becoming a household name, selling out 4 straight nights at the largest comedy club in Utah, Wiseguys in SLC. Fresh off the release of his crazy funny – and CLEAN! – Netflix Special “Happy Face”, I said to my wife, “I wonder how much of his special he’ll do tonight and what he might have that’s new.” In reality

What is Holding You Back?

If you read this blog and you don’t attend the National Speakers Association then 1. Please join and go to meetings faithfully, and 2. Realize there is a group of your peers out there improving themselves by what is taught at these meetings, and interested in sharing their insights with you. I have been a member of the Mountain West Chapter of NSA since 2003.  So much of it has made a difference in my life and career.  Some of my deepest friendships and most important business relationships have come out of it. Recently my friend, Tiffany Peterson, posted

How to Use Your Face

Although I have a face for radio, this face has provided me a living. So I guess that affords me the permission to consider myself an expert on how to use your face. When it comes to being on stage the only thing that can be compared to the importance of the usage of your face would be the voice.  That will be another blog post. The other day I found some old footage of one of my early performances.  It was playing in the background as I was searching for my Tiny Tim impression to show my kids

How To Be An Effective & Successful Presenter

My 11-year old’s class is working on STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.  The teacher sent out a call to parents requesting their help teaching these subjects.  Since I failed all STEM type classes in school I replied that I couldn’t be of assistance but would like to be, to which the teacher responded I could teach them, as little STEMers, to effectively present their ideas on stage. On it. So, in full disclosure, this is a very simple course I put together for my daughter’s class of 6th graders, yet I feel it applies to anyone looking to

Go To Every Show You Can

How many shows, if you’re a showman, did you attend last month? How many speeches, if you’re a speaker, did you watch? Last week while in Utah I watched my friend Dan Clark in SLC at his Training on Speaking, in the morning and afternoon.  That evening went to WiseGuys Comedy Club to support my friend and comedian, Steve Soelberg. Later that night when I returned home, watched 2 Netflix comedy specials to wind down and go to sleep. This week I attended VidAngel’s newest platform, Family Night Out, in Provo, where motivational and inspirational speakers come together
